José Sánchez del Río was beatified on November 20, 2005, by Pope Benedict XVI and canonized on October 16, 2016, by Pope Francis. Today, he is venerated as a powerful example of youthful courage, unwavering faith, and martyrdom. He is the patron saint of persecuted Christians, youth, and the Mexican Cristero movement.
